Stay Attachment Informed
John Bowlby, 1907-1990
At Secure Base, we are grounded in the principles of attachment theory—a foundational framework for understanding human behavior developed by John Bowlby in the mid-1900s. Attachment theory is rooted in the understanding that humans are biologically wired for connection. From infancy to adulthood, the need for deep, secure relationships is at the core of our well-being. These connections provide our greatest sense of safety and are central to our growth, resilience, and sense of self.
Attachment theory underscores the idea that the quality of our relationships—most effected by significant relationships—shapes how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world around us. The need for connection influences every aspect of our lives, and a secure attachment serves as the foundation for emotional regulation, resilience, and healthy functioning.
At Secure Base, we believe that attachment knowledge is not only transformative for clients but also a powerful tool for clinicians. Understanding attachment patterns and how early experiences shape adult behavior can radically improve therapeutic outcomes. That’s why we’re committed to expanding the use and appreciation of attachment theory in clinical practice.
As part of this mission, we offer a range of opportunities for both clients and clinicians to explore, learn, and engage with attachment-based approaches. Through training, workshops, and consultations, we aim to deepen the understanding of attachment and empower professionals to integrate these insights into their practice.

Attachment-Informed Training and Consultation Group
Our Attachment-Informed Training and Consultation Group is a community of mental health professionals who are passionate about attachment theory and its impact on therapeutic practice. In our monthly meetings, we explore key topics related to attachment theory and attachment-informed care. Through collaborative discussions and group consultation, we work together to enhance our understanding of attachment security and improve the support we offer to our clients. This group provides a space for learning, sharing, and refining techniques to help foster stronger, more secure attachments in the therapeutic process.
